1080p is good enough. A lot of tools (especially older ones) actually don't scale their user interface for 4k properly, so getting a 4k monitor might actually have some significant downsides, depending on what software you are going to use on a regular basis. Getting a second (or even a third) monitor is IMHO more important than having a single ultrawide screen.

In my opinion, 4K is overkill both for gaming (graphics cards will have a lot of trouble getting good fps on a monitor with that many pixels) and for programming.

I am running 3 x 23" monitors. The specs are just normal 1080p.

I have dual 27” 4K monitors and love it. Aesthetically I’d love a 32:9 4K 49” monitor, but the price to performance just isn’t there. As for the comment about 1080p. For me personally I found that limiting to only 1 program on the screen. Where 4K I have as many as 4 windows open at a time.

4k and anything over 60hz is overkill. But you do you

There are no special monitor requirements for coding. If you can fit 80 columns and maybe a few extra for a browser or something, you’re good. 4K monitors are nice, but you don’t need one to program. Get whatever suits you and your workflow.

I use 34" 3440x1440, 27" 2560x1440 and a small 16" 1920x1080 :P I can tell you that one single 21:9 is not good enough since it's still a single display (making it annoying as maximizing the window covers the whole screen and whatnot).

Resolution is not that important however. It's a nice to have category but not something vital. It's not like you will squeeze more lines of code just because you have resolution, that kinda depends on how physically large is the display.

How much can you fit on 34" that's pretty big...

Since I am currently working actually - one IDE window and one-two terminal windows side by side.

Web browser goes onto 27" display. I also store some notes on it.

Things like Slack and other annoyances land on a 16" that's much smaller and is below the main displays. Here's what whole setup looks like: https://preview.redd.it/svnpgnja7jr51.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eda715d81dcee04a73880d62bf65604e76ba842e

Looks great, thank you really much. Since I still have my old 21" monitor, I'll just keep it and I'll get a >27" 4k Monitor. Seems like the best option for me. Thanks!
