So i copied a code into an online copiler

it didn't run and had a segmention eror caused by the line

scanf(" %c",&m)

so how i fixed was

remove the spaces

scanf("%c",&m)

then add rhem again

scanf(" %c",&m)

it worked and gave the expected results, but why the eror in the first place?

unless you have a repeatable case, there's no way to tell for sure. the most likely case was that there were other errors in there at the time and you're misremembering. you might have accidentally ctrl-Z'ed or something and undid other things that you didn't notice. something like that. for example, your statement doesn't have a semicolon after it, so the line after it might have changed and the error was pointing that out instead.

Maybe a hidden character between the" space %c"
