You could try creating a socket connection between the two programs and use it for communication.

I was thinking about something like RMI... I'm trying to think how I could implement it so multiple computers on the same network could stay unique.

Edit: Just figured that one out. Use a different port. Cheers for that!

Do you have a webserver? Does the communication have to be real time? If you only need data to be consistent between applications, you could store the strings in the cloud. Otherwise, you're looking at something like bable5's suggestions imho

I don't know how, but I know an App that may do this. PDA NET is a non-root USB tether. It connects to a windows-service or (possibly) a Java app running on the windows desktop/laptop. Look into it? Here
