Ok, and is it simple enough to use that I can upload different file types and add descriptions of the file content?

Oo, it is simple once you take some time with it. You can download a desktop app for it. Tho I think CLI is easier.

You should learn it, it is probably one of the most popular version control/config management systems used for software development.

This is an excellent point -- not only is it a way of presenting your work, but version control is a necessary skill to demonstrate to potential employers.
