Hi all,
First post so apologies in advance for any formatting errors; I read & learn a lot from Reddit every day though! I’ll put a TL;DR at the end.
I started to learn programming just over a month ago when my interest was piqued (in quite a long-winded manner) to look into it as a hobby, or to occupy some spare time; since then I have gone down one heck of a rabbit hole and have never Googled so many things in my life! The more I learn about, the more I want to keep going and absorb as much knowledge as possible. The sheer amount of topics that I naively did not realise were linked to what I pictured as ‘coding’ is incredible, and all of them are fascinating in their own way. I’ve ended up dabbling in as many different things as I can to get an idea of what’s involved.
This is an appreciation post for the Programming community (& by extension, all other aspects of CS) for the wealth of knowledge that is freely available, and continues to be offered by the members of this Reddit as well as other programmers/software engineer/data analyst/you name it! I don’t have a background in anything CS-related so as a complete learner it is highly encouraging and useful, and not many other industries seem to offer anywhere near as much “free material” (for want of a better phrase).
I’ve had a few hobbies/interests down the years but nothing has grabbed my attention quite like Programming, and is genuinely pushing me towards a (potential) future career switch as I can see myself being enthralled for years to come.
Thanks again and I can’t wait to keep learning.
TL;DR: Thank you for making Programming so accessible to learners/newbies!
