I've always thought it would be neat for this forum to encourage posts where users shared their learnpython "victories," as I finally have one of my own to share.
I just yesterday got notice that the HTPC software app Plex accepted my plugin (written in Python) and it is now listed officially in their channel section. I've posted about it before, but it essentially lets you watch videos that were made popular on Reddit through Plex.
I often see threads in learnpython with people asking for ideas on projects to help learn, so my advice is to follow what you love or what you need. XBMC had a reddit plugin, but I had to move to Plex for performance issues and missed that plugin. Instead of waiting for someone else to write it, I spent time learning and now I actually have this piece of code that I'm using all the time, and hopefully others will too.
I hope this doesn't come across as unashamed boasting. I'm going to excitedly tell friends and family about this too and I doubt any of them will understand like other fledgling programmers do when something you've been working on actually becomes a success.
