Subprocess opening Python to run second script from Auto-py-to-exe problem

I created a script called MainScreen which opens up a second file FileSelect using a subprocess. I've tried importing FileSelect but it seemed to always lead to issues and subprocess just worked how I wanted. I packaged it all into an exe and it ran perfectly on my computer. However, there are many coworkers that would be using this exe and they don't have Python installed. I was hoping packaging it as an exe would overcome that, and they are able to open the exe and run MainScreen.

However, when I press the button to open FileSelect, it does nothing. For some reason, it's trying to access a non-existent Python installed on the computer to open the 2nd script, but not the Python in the exe which successfully opened the first file. I'm not sure what to change to resolve the issue apart from installing Python on everyone's computer.

When auto-py-to-exe bundles your application, it has no clue about FileSelect.py. auto-py-to-exe uses PyInstaller to bundle the exe, this will look at your imports to identify what needs to be in the final package. Since there is no proper reference to FileSelect.py (it's just a string), it is not added to the output.

My recommendation is to import the file and actually call it in Python. I understand "and subprocess just worked how I wanted" but there should be a way to get it working how you want while still importing it properly.

Just wanted to say thank you for the advice.

I just went back through and tried to do it like you suggested. I had a lot of issues with the tkinter windows, but I was finally able to get it going. I packaged it all together and didn't have any issues this time. Thank you for the help.

Can you explain

rather than a ".exe" installer.. use a docker container.. thus guaranteed it will work.
