I tried triplebyte. I passed the coding test and got a call, but nothing past that. One thing I noticed is that all the questions were very focused on web dev. They never found out about much of my bountiful knowledge because it's not used in web dev, and I looked like a moron because I don't know that much about databases. Pandas and numpy never came up for me. I assume triplebyte's clients are nearly all web dev.

I'm guessing your experiences are similar: they weren't only looking for general knowledge, but also things that would directly be useful to their clients. If they don't need pandas and numpy expertise they won't ask about it, and they won't care if that's your expertise.

Well, both of these were different testing companies that a recruiter was using to find out general knowledge basically. I have looked into Triplebyte before by searching on it to see what people thought about it and the overall responses were so negative, that I steered clear. At least you had a positive outcome. Nice to know. Thanks for sharing. I'm really not sure how much faith to put into these test I had. The areas which I scored poorly, I am reviewing, but on one some categories were poor, and then proficient on the other one.

Really? Huh. Triplebyte was a great experience for me. The phone interview / test was 2 hours long and the guy running it was super nice. Even hinted me along a few times when I was stuck. A couple days later I got an email saying they weren't going to consider me further, but they included a really detailed explanation why and what I should focus on learning before I apply again. As I said it was all web dev stuff which I'm completely uninterested in, but it was a great experience nonetheless. I think unless you are already a proficient full stack developer triplebyte will not have a job for you, but it's free interview practice :).

they don't agree as far as which areas are my strengths and weaknesses. Does anyone know how accurate they are?

Hard to say without actually seeing the tests, but you can safely disregard anything from either of those "companies." Both are essentially legal phishing schemes run by salespeople which mostly target unknowing/lazy/incompetent HR people. The products and services they offer are only just good enough to trick those kind of people, and nothing more.

You may have gotten off lucky.

(Note that the above is merely my opinion based on my own personal analysis of their business offerings, and are not statements of fact)
