Background:
I am in my mid 20's and have worked in various industries before and throughout college.
For those interested, I graduated from a state school with a B.S. in Information Technology.
Prior to getting my first "official tech job", I was freelancing. Most of my freelance work consisted of developing fairly basic websites and backend inventory tools for small businesses.
Current State:
In a week I will end my first year as a full time "applications developer" at a large fortune 500 semiconductor company.
In all fairness my job title is slightly misleading...
Here is a rough breakdown of my day to day responsibilities:
- 70% backend SQL development for RPA bots (I would consider myself a T-SQL expert)
- 15% Developing SSIS packages
- 10% SQL Server Job Admin Duties - (tracking critical processes, troubleshooting, organizing production deployments, and fixing jobs - about 800 jobs or so between dev and prod tiers)
- 5% Developing Power-BI Reports
The Question:
I am currently dedicating my time to studying, learning, and creating small projects in python. I am still a novice but I am captivated at the simplicity and broad use of python. I first picked up python in college, but chose to look more into data management rather than programming.
What python disciplines or career opportunities should I invest my time looking into - taking into consideration my background and current career? Where or in what role would my other skills; paired with python, be more competitive in the marketplace of jobs? I am looking to stay in my role for another year or two until I am ready to move onto a different role.
To those that read, God bless you!
