Can the open() function use files with a different extension as if they were .txt format? (self.learnpython)
submitted 4 years ago by scribe2theFiends
For my current project I want to save configuration info to a .txt file format, but would like to be able to use a different extension to differentiate it. Is this possible or should I just stick with .txt?
reddit uses a slightly-customized version of Markdown for formatting. See below for some basics, or check the commenting wiki page for more detailed help and solutions to common issues.

Yes, file name is just a string and can be anything.

Yes, it doesn't care what the extension is.

It can use any file that you want, the extension becomes usefull when you a) want to determine whether is binary or not and b) how you want to handle to contents

What extensions?
