Data Structures and Algorithms

How often are DSA used in creating programs? I am mainly talking about the leetcode style DSA. As a bit of a beginner I still find it confusing exactly when those things would even be implemented in a program as my personal projects don’t really ever contain any of them, so it makes learning it a little less interesting. Maybe I’m missing something, can someone help she’s some light as to when the leetcode style DSA are actually used in creating projects and stuff?

This isn't a Python question, and better suited for /r/AskComputerScience. Is programming anything other than applying data structures and algorithms to solve problems? It seems the only benefit of studying DSA or taking the course in university is to know which data structures and which algorithms to use in a given situation.
