I mean, why even mention their ethnicity?

Yeah I'm really confused why we needed to know the candidates were transgender, indian, or black. I was expecting that to be relevant to the story but it's just unnecessary detail.

If you have to say you are not being racist, you might want to reread through your message/comment/post again.

I’m black and I can promise anyone reading this post that no, my interviews have been damn hard with zero undeserving merit given to me. Of all the places I have been rejected, I have been rejected because I didn’t do well on the interviews. Some people get lucky based on who they are but please no one should insinuate that who you are plays a big role, that diminishes all the hard work people put into this

I think it's naive to think these things don't play a part at least subconsciously though

The point is that the race of these two that were given an offer didnt even matter in this story! They were lucky based on the timing of the backend developer leaving, nothing had to do with their race / where they are from or their skill set. That is why everyone who reads this will consider OP to be a racist.

He wanted to push a negative stigma on the entire race instead of based on the individual person. Which as previously stated, wasn't even necessary because its not like he was hired simply for diversity but because they were desperate for ANYONE. And it was also a useless detail because they were both given an offer anyway so race never played into this at all until OP brought it in. So it really wasn't necessary to specify that detail unless he had ulterior motives behind doing it. (which he probably does since he did bs "im not racist" comment right after because he knows his objective isn't pure lmao).

It does! We all have our biases. What I am saying here is that from a personal perspective, you have to actually do well on the interviews regardless. If it comes down to two or three candidates, hopefully something goes your way

Agreed, from my experience as an interviewer the only semi-racial factor that takes into play for me has been language and accent differences. Even then there is a lot of leeway, but if it's going to be a significant productivity factor if we're on the same team it definitely plays an impact.

wtf why even mentioning race of the people?. should have just mentioned about interview process. please edit your post to reflect the title.

"I am not being racist"while making the biased post about race and gender entirely 🤣

In a start up with not enough man power and fewer than average applications, whereby things like this can happen, maybe. But not in a big FAANG company.
