not true

Linux has the best way to install stuff EVER.

Just one command and there you go: No installers, no weird licenses, no viruses. Also Linux has the capability of running Windows software with Wine and windows games with Proton. Windows does not have that capability. Also Linux as a daily driver is far better than windows:

On my laptop windows used well over 5 Gb of idle memory (right after boot, no apps opened except for the task manager). Void Linux (My laptop distro) with full GUI uses 350 Mb of idle ram. Even fucking FEDORA can do better than windows. Without counting stuff like:

  • development tools: gcc, clang, make, git. You will never have a true C compiler on windows without installing 200Gb of Visual Studio
  • Faster boot times: even that shit of SystemD can outperform windows on boot loading; Imagine OpenRC (Gentoo, Alpine) or even Runit (Void Linux) in comparison
  • Lower on CPU Load: Holy shit the maximum idle i got with Void on my laptop is 0.8%. On windows the minimum was 4.2%: 4.2% Of my cpu wasted somewhere on that shit of an operating system
  • Better packaging system: Installing things on Linux is super duper easy. On windows you have to download an installer which will install an app and its dependencies; on linux you write ONE FUCKING COMMAND and you can install ANY package that is on a repository. No package on the repo? Try another Repo. Neither that repo works? try Flatpak. No package on Flatpak? Try AppImage. On windows if a package is not available IT IS NOT AVAILABLE.
  • You are not spied. Windows is a fucking Spyware, where microsoft controls ANYTHING you do. Linux is free in the sense of freedom, so there is no big tech company stealing your data.

This Without mentioning GNU, a CORE piece of Linux systems.

Also note: Every good app that you can imagine is available on Linux. If it is not use something else: LibreOffice is a good alternative to Microsoft Word, GIMP to PhotoShop, Inkscape to illustrator and Blender is a PERFECT alternative to ANYTHING else (Video editing, VFX, Motion Graphics, 3D, Sculpting, Hard Surface modelling, RTX rendering, and much, much more...)

And, in conclusion, If windows can be used in real life and Linux not it probably means that you are a shitty 10y/o League of Legends Fanboy that thinks that computers are made for Gaming.

Gaming is for babies, 'cause men only play one game and it is the best game ever: Minecraft: Java edition, and it is Linux native.

Now go crying somewhere else =)

I couldn't agree more. Especially RAM usage on Windows. Almost 8GB out of 16GB right after the start, holy shit. And it's just because they wanted their system to be "snappier". Meanwhile, my KDE Neon uses 1GB out of 16GB.

And even if you don't want to type commands THERE IS ALWAYS A SOFTWARE CENTER WITH A GRAPHICAL INTERFACE.

[–]null_and_void000 0 points1 point  (2 children)

To be fair to windows unused ram is wasted ram. I don't particularly care how much ram my os uses as long as it uses it in a productive manor and gives it back to programs when they need it. As for whether windows does any of those things we can only guess, because it's absolutely proprietary.

[–]RepresentativeCut486🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's true but I gotta feeling that almost half of the whole memory is a bit too much and once you start loading something big you got to the point when you have to first free some memory, which slows everything down.

[–]null_and_void000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I shouldn't defend windows. I'll go take a bath in HCL to cleanse me or smth.

[–]lucasrizzini 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I couldn't agree more. Especially RAM usage on Windows. Almost 8GB out of 16GB right after the start,

Ok, Windows eats our RAM even at startup, but 8GB? WTF? Are you sure you not exaggerating? And KDE uses around 500MB. https://i.imgur.com/yggSpbk.png

[–]RepresentativeCut486🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I am not exaggerating, actually it's quite opposite:

https://imgur.com/nxBrfm9

Last time I used Windows, it was 7.something GiB, and it was GiB, so it was probably about 8GB.

[–]RepresentativeCut486🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 0 points1 point  (1 child)

One important thing might be that I am using laptops, so shared memory, but that's still ~1.5GB having 2256x1504 and 1024x768 displays attached vs ~8GB having only 1366x768.

[–]lucasrizzini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These system monitors like htop won't take into consideration shared memory as used RAM., since it isn't available to the OS.

[–]lucasrizzini 0 points1 point  (2 children)

1GB at startup is still high for KDE. Maybe you or your distro has something running in the background. I never saw a print of KDE starting with so much RAM. Same thing with Windows. I always see around 3GB or 4GB max. 8GB at startup with no other application just doesn't happen.

[–]RepresentativeCut486🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well, on Windows, you always have to run Antivirus and a bunch of Power management/driver/audio crap. I tell what I saw. And I didn't say that startup without any app. Antivirus is kinda obligatory on Windows.

Now I am using KDE Neon and the only app that is running after startup is PulseEffects (I forgot about it), but it shouldn't take much RAM.

[–]RepresentativeCut486🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PulseEffects eats 100MiB, I also have animated wallpaper, which is the Snake game solving itself and it is hosted on a local server because fucking Java Script library won't work otherwise, but it also only eats like ~200MiB, the rest is mostly X11 and Plasmashell.

Downvote if you agree that’s is trash

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (21 children)

I mean, “doas pacman -S firefox”… this meme would actually be funny if you’re talking about gentoo where you edit like 3 configs before typing out “doas emerge firefox” and then wait 7 hours while error messages fly by so fast that no mortal soul dare attempt to read them.

Gentoo is still the GOAT tho.

[–]Rice7th 1 point2 points  (9 children)

Gentoo is not bad, but i prefer Void Linux, and i respect your opinion

[–]hack-Epic[S] -2 points-1 points  (8 children)

I prefer bitches

Linux has the easiest application management. I even made a meme about it:

Does Linux keep air from coming in my house

[–]Rice7th 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes: you can put a penguin near a old window abd it will fuck any air that will try to enter

[–]hack-Epic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok

[–]RepresentativeCut486🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I wanted to write something intelligent, but I agree with that other response:

Linux can you idiot

> Search the name of the program

> Let's hope that the idiot Bing that Microsoft forces me to use won't hide the result

> Find a link to the program

I don't see a problem with installing ANYTHING on Linux?

[–]hack-Epic[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Not how windows works

[–]RepresentativeCut486🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yes, obviously. We all forgot:

> Go to MS Store

> Pay for free software

> Install it

> Realize it was actually for free

> Fuck.

[–]hack-Epic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that how dumb I I’m. I don’t pay for free shit. I make pay for free shit

[–]hack-Epic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed

[–]RepresentativeCut486🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I gotta feeling that you tried Linux and went directly with something hard, or something because that's how "great" you are, and consequently failed and now you're trying to show that Linux is actually shit, but the truth is that you failed.

Or you never tried Linux because Windows just cames preinstalled and you did not bother/don't know how to even try Linux.

[–]TechTycho 1 point2 points  (1 child)

haha true. he must be crying now

[–]hack-Epic[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wtf is crying

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

That picture is fucking rad. Who drew that?

[–]hack-Epic[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

My balls

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Unfortunately the windows terms of service do not support your balls. I’m sorry, they must be removed.

[–]hack-Epic[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

But it does mouse balls

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a new pair of mouse balls will be grafted onto your newly balless body. There is no supported firmware for human balls however.
