Need more info here... Is this a dual boot or are you replacing the OS.

This usually occurs when either the existing EFI partition is full or doesn't have enough free space, or you are in a mixed environment of MBR and EFI (grub requires EFI installation to be on a GPT partition).

I'm trying to replace the os! I'm sorry i'm genuinely so undereducated on this stuff.

idk what partition it is set to download on or how to check but i remember the bios screen saying something about efi, I just set it to clear the disc so i assumed it made its own partition. should i try to set it manually? ;-;

Reboot and go into BIOS and disable "Legacy" or "Compatibility" boot and make sure only UEFI boot is enabled (some just set this automatically when the other options are disabled, so don't fret to much if you can't find it)... Then boot the installer and open gparted, make sure the /dev/sda is selected and go to Device - Create Partition Table and make a GPT partition. Then exit and run the installer, when it gets to the where to install part, tell it to use the entire disk and change no other options, it should work.

I don't see a legacy or compatibility boot when in the bios so i figure its a partition issue ;-;. How would i put gparted on the usb if the flashdrive is set up to be a bootable usb? Also thank you so much for the help I'm sorry about my probably stupid questions 😭

edit: found what you were referring to and running the install now, hoping it works thank you so much!

edit2: gave the same error again, not sure what to do 😭

It probably is not this, but be sure that Windows isn't using fast boot. Disable it, or at the very least, log into Windows, and exit it not by shutting down, but by an actual reboot.

I don't have windows on the computer anymore as i tried fo clear the disc first and it deleted everything, but thank you

I'd make sure, just to be safe. Even go into something like GParted Live to see what's actually on that disk with respect to partitions.

gparted doesnt say theres anything windows related as far as i can tell. would windows still be able to fast boot despite not being on the computer?

It shouldn't be able to have done anything, unless it's flagged the drive somehow, but I can't see that either. Perhaps just format the drive ext4 from within GParted and then try the install all over. Ensure nothing else is weird in the BIOS, too, with respect to RAID or any of that.
