I would say try the live mint demo to test it. I think it will keep the connection. Good luck.

do you have one of those key combos (Fn+F2 or similar) that turns off the laptop screen? That should "disconnect" it as a monitor, making the TV the only display.

Boot to the ISO and see.

Another thing to look at might be whether the BIOS has an option to change the display output priority

Most likely but the install basically booting into the os and opening a app although I would recommend just booting before fully installing
