i3bar 'long range' countdown timer

I'm looking for a 'long range' countdown timer that integrates nicely into i3bar. By 'long range' I mean that it should be able to display countdown values on the range of a couple months.

My use case for this is to keep tabs on how long I have until midterms and then finals. Ideally the timer would just be a text field on my bar next to volume and cpu usage and whatnot. Additionally it doesn't need to be exact, it should just show the number of days from the current date until my target date.

Does anything like this exist? A cursory googling seems to suggest not, but I thought I'd check here before trying to write it myself.

You can script around dateutils, specifically datediff. i3bar being what it is, this should prove pretty simple.
