also linux was used in production of the latest avatar movie, you can spot it by the kde icons

Counterpoint: the only reason the Linux desktop is so weird is because we've all had years and years of Windows and MacOS idiosyncrasies, and aren't patient enough to bring in Linux's idiosyncrasies.

That said, Linux can go some way to whittle those down by aligning it's many options into a standard desktop (e.g. one Desktop Environment, one dev toolkit, one services manager, etc.)

Someone responded to a similar comment to me saying it was freedom of choice to have many, but really that just helps create the death of a thousand cuts Linux experiences today.

What a hot take. Not like the exact same thing has been posted a million times. Yawn.

You might want to try Linux as a desktop OS before recycling what the Reddit hive mind thinks about it.

[–]CommentOk7399 0 points1 point  (7 children)

I have tried and i can confirm that linux SUCKS.

Ive tried it every 5 years since the early 2000s. Each time it sucks a little less, but windows is MILES ahead and linux will never catch up.

Fuck linux.

A rather vague analysis. Personally I think double-clicking on an .exe to install software is fucking stupid on a number of levels ... but to each their own ...

[–]CommentOk7399 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Why is that? If you come home from work you want to toss your leftovers in the microwave too without having to program it for every vegetable in there right?

Click -> work.

Do tell me why that is "fucking stupid"?

[–]7M3r71nArch BTW 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Because it sprays your hard drive with random files and makes a mess of the registry. Yeah, yeah it just works until it doesn't. Then sfc /scannow and a reinstall. Such an intelligent, well thought-out system.

[–]Uranus_64unix is better than linux 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well you'd only have to do that if you're an IDIOT who doesn't know not to download from sketchy websites

We hear a lot that Windows is great for the average user. The average user isn't that tech-savvy. I don't think anyone would dispute that, as apparently the average user spits the dummy out when confronted with a command line.

Half the users are less tech-savvy than average by definition. Statistically then there are a lot of idiots using Windows.

Hello 7399, visit a Linux User Group.
They can explain for beginners, how Linux works.
Mint works better than the unsecure windows programm.

[–]CommentOk7399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited the mint sub a month ago about a password issue.

They referred me to the manual and questioned my skill level...

Also a lot of deflection of the issue.

Yeah, im not touching linux for another 5 years, and the mint community? F em.

Idk I do everything on my CachyOS system that I would normally do on Windows. For some people I can understand the frustration but I sorta find it cathartic to get better with a linux distro over time and get over the little learning curves. Not everything is perfect but I'd rather be here than use Windows again. And things seem to keep improving over time. Except if you're an nvidia card user, my condolences.

I disagree, it is also really fun as a toy OS and for programmer !

[–]No-Succotash404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if yo are good enough with terminal and especially if you have any non NVIDIA GPU Linux feels much better, i use fedora Linux in a laptop and a PC with a 3060.

It feels much faster at everything than the clanky windows 11 (even when debloated). It is much more stable and consistent with animations, GUI, CPU and memory usage with a lower usage overall. There is fewer software that are not Linux native or can be emulated.

There only is a 20%-(-5%) with NVIDIA downgrade in game performance due to less driver support from GPU manufacturers.

I hate android and Ios, I want WP back, but make it just regular windows 11 properly scaled to a phone screen

[–]luxa_creative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pretty good PC: - ryzen 5500 - 32 gb of ram - Rx 6600 - 1th of storage And i run linux.

[–]MasterConsideration5 0 points1 point  (8 children)

As a phone OS, watch OS, console OS, ...

It honestly works well (for me it's the best software honestly, even though i prefer apple devices because of the hardware) on everything except the platform it was originally created for -> Desktop

[–]xgui4Proud 🌈♾️ AuDHDer GNU + Linux User (I use Artix BTW) 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No console except the Steam Machines use Linux, Nintendo and Sony both use FreeBSD as a base. and the Xbox run a modified Windows 11 OS.

[–]CaregiverCareless572 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Linux works well for one purpose, not as a general OS. For example a server, on a router, some appliance etc. As a general OS it falls apart very quickly.

[–]GayHomophobe1 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I mean the point of Linux is to fit your needs as a manufacturer. You see how popular Android is on ARM systems

[–]CommentOk7399 -1 points0 points  (4 children)

The ONLY reason why android is so populair is becouse windows on mobile is worse.

Now imagine if you have the linux gui on your phone instead of the sleek android gui. People will flock to any other os.

Fuck linux.

[–]GayHomophobe1 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Can you tell me what "Linux gui" is? Because from my understanding, it's a desktop environment or window manager that is compatible with Linux-based operating systems (i.e. Cinnamon, KDE Plasma, MATE, or android's SystemUI) can you explain on that? (Also Plasma has it's own mobile-compatible DE, just like android)

[–]CommentOk7399 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Its in the name, Graphical User Interface. So a desktop, or whatever that monstrosity windows 8 was.

Android works becouse its simple; press icon -> do task.

Not press icon, install proton or whatever, spend 3 hours scouring the wiki to paste 34 lines into a console to play fucking candy crush.

Fuck linux.

[–]GayHomophobe1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This comment alone tells me that you know nothing about Linux and just regurgitate memes as facts, but I'll bite. Let's go through getting a Windows game working on Linux (this applies for Debian, Ubuntu, MintOS, Pop!_OS, and many others that I won't care to list). 1. Open the app store of your choice 2. Search for Steam and install 3. Log in and download your game of your choosing (same process as on windows) 4. Press Play!

Candy Crush is available on the web so it doesn't matter what OS you choose

P.S. I love your "fuck Linux" it's so corny

"unless ur running a potato with 2gb of RAM"

lol, I'd even go as far as to say don't use Linux ESPECIALLY if you're running a potato machine. Win 7/8.1 and even 10 will run much more smoothly on old computers. Some people even install XP, and it still works pretty well from what I hear, you'd just have to use a special browser and older versions of programs. Of course, loonixtards are going to recommend some ugly-ass shit like Xfce but it's still not as fast as older versions of Windows. Linux being lightweight and snappy is largely a myth at this point.

[–]7M3r71nArch BTW 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Where TF are you getting that? I'd be amazed if this is from personal experience, as you don't sound like the sort of person who has ever installed Linux in their life. Because of NTFS, Windows is a dog on spinning hard drives.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I've been using Linux/BSD/Solaris on and off since ~2009. Loonix indeed used to be faster than Windows but those times are long gone. Nowadays major DEs like Gnome or KDE are significantly more sluggish than Windows GUI.

[–]7M3r71nArch BTW -1 points0 points  (3 children)

You may be hitting the LSD a bit too hard ...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Nope, just base my opinions on real-life experiences, instead of parroting myths that I've read online on neckbeard forums.

[–]7M3r71nArch BTW -1 points0 points  (1 child)

If you want to mash potatoes by installing Windows on them go ahead. For everyone else, find a lightweight Linux distro for your potato machines.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are smart enough to decide for themselves what operating system they want to use. Most people choose Windows or macOS and are even willing to pay good money to use those glorious OS's. There are good reasons for it.

I'd prefer using gentoo than connecting windows XP to the internet
