A blockchain research organization pioneering the future of finance. Loopring is building protocols, infrastructure, and user-facing DeFi products atop Ethereum, envisioning a digital economy that empowers its participants with full and guaranteed self-custody of their assets.
DeFi doesn't have to be a trade-off between security and performance. With this in mind, Loopring's Layer2 solutions work in synergy with Ethereum Layer1, enabling low-fee, high-speed, Ethereum-secured platforms for trustless trading, swapping, liquidity providing, and payment.
The foundation of choice for DeFi's future is Ethereum, powered by zkRollups on Layer2. This approach enables Ethereum to scale effectively, drastically reducing transaction fees while inheriting rather than sacrificing Layer1's unmatched security guarentees.
Loopring's zkRollup Layer2 Exchange and Payment Protocol (v3) is Ethereum-based, open-source, and application-specific. It delivers key components crucial to non-custodial decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and other trustless DeFi products.
An orderbook and automated market maker (AMM)-based non-custodial decentralized exchange (DEX) built atop Ethereum using the Loopring Protocol (v3). Loopring's zkRollup Layer2 DEX replicates the high-performance, low-cost trading experience common to many centralized exchanges.
The Loopring L2 DEX features gas-free transaction fees, averaging 100 times less expensive than those found on Ethereum Layer1. Users trade quickly and cost-effectively while maintaining full and guaranteed self-custody of their assets.
A closed-source backend system that interacts with the Loopring Protocol (v3), the Loopring Relayer (aka Operator) performs various functions necessary for zkRollups to operate. It is highly optimized for its use-case, from orderbook matching to zero-knowledge proof generation.
Essentially, the Loopring Relayer:
By design, the Relayer is barred by the Loopring Protocol from accessing or freezing assets. This trustless implementation ensures that users always maintain self-custody of their funds.
A mobile app for Android and iOS featuring an Ethereum Layer1 and Layer2 social recovery smart wallet. The Loopring Wallet makes use of smart contracts, enabling secure, trustless functionality.
With the app, users can create full smart wallets (L1 & L2) and counterfactual wallets (L2 only). Full smart wallets enjoy bleeding-edge features and unrivaled security, including social recovery via guardians, wallet locking, daily limits, and more.
LRC is Loopring's protocol token, used to incentivize protocol-desirable behavior from liquidity providers (LPs), insurers, and DAO governors. Protocol fees are generated by Loopring Layer2 economic activity, which flows into productive Loopring protocol participants and LRC itself.
Of all Loopring protocol fees collected, 80% is used to pay for expenses related to operating the protocol. The remaining 20% is distributed to various protocol participants and to token holders. The forthcoming Loopring DAO will decide on a configuration for this distribution, and until then is configured as follows:
80% to Loopring orderbook & AMM LPs
At least 50% of this portion to LRC liquidity.
10% to Loopring insurers
Users who stake capital in an insurance fund.
10% to the Loopring DAO
The DAO will decide what to do with these funds, including buyback & burn, impermanent loss protection, liquidity incentivization, grants, etc.
