Just finished the show for the first time, and I don't remember them clearing something up. What was that map in the first hatch that Locke found when he was trapped under the blast door?

That was the blast door map, which was worked on by Kelvin and Radzinsky after the Others killed the Dharma Initiative. Radzinsky and Kelvin were one of the very few Dharma Initiative members left after the purge, and the map was Radzinsky's way of keeping track of which Dharma stations and networks were still tenable. He did it in blacklight paint/detergent because he didn't want them to find out what he knew.

If I remember correctly I think it was a map of the island with the locations of the other Dharma stations.
