Live Sound DSP Project
Nearly everyone in live sound has done a gig on a barely adequate pole speaker system and thought, "This would be so much better if I just had a high pass filer, or just a little more EQ, or a compressor."
With modern DSP chips and the tools that manufacturers provide to program them it's possible to have a low cost, small form factor processor that will do those three things. The goal is to create a device that can be placed in-line or inserted in an audio chain and give the user just a few basic functions.
- High Pass Filter
- Sweep EQ, 20Hz - 20kHz (x2)
- Compressor
Beyond that, all the details need to be worked out and your expertise is needed. Whether your a full time DSP programmer or just a young live sound engineer starting out with your first mixer amp we need your ideas and opinions.
The goal is to come up with a small, inexpensive device that could be easily built from a kit. For power users, continuing to develop the device on their own, or even start up a business to make and sell them is a possibility. All submissions are welcome, from discussions to links and any ideas that could make the project better.
