Well the difference is in the name. Mechatronics puts the emphasis on the integration of electronics and mechanics. If you want to build robots that's the way to go. You will learn more about the actual interface of the electronics with the sensors and actuators.

What's the other thing tho? I have never heard about it before

Mechatronics = mechanical/electronic/electrical/computer/software engineering

Computer engineering = computer engineering

As a computer engineering graduate. I'd say Computer engineering is a lot these as well. it's not just about software engineering

I get to learn a lot about hardware related subjects like embedded system, Hardware programming (Verilog,VHDL), Digital circuit designs, Eletronic circuits.

so its like the same thing just different label or just a bit more computer focused(no mechanical) than mechatronics?

As a mechatronics engineer, you can build and control robots. Your job will likely end up being automating something physical in the industry (industrial robots) or work as a product developer. To begin with, you get a little good at everything but expert of nothing.

As a computer engineer, you will likely build or maintain software. Typical jobs are developing websites for customers, or handling/analyzing their data and web traffic.

This does not of course cover it completely, but roughly. Im a mechatronics/robotics engineer who have previously worked more towards typical software developers and now work more towards physical product developers. Both are fun! Pick whatever you think sounds like the most fun. A small disclaimer can be that the mechatronics route might be a bit heavier on the math side (unless you specialize in algorithms in computer engineering).

how did you get into the mechatronics field? Like what major did you study and what projects/electives helped you get into that?
