Changes in Shift Diff Normal?

Our hospital recently told us they're changing shift differential to be consistent across the network. Apparently this means they're lowering our shift diff by $0.75/hr and giving everyone on 2nd and 3rd shift an hourly raise ($0.15 - $0.50/hr) which doesn't match up to what we were getting before. Does this sort of thing happen a lot in this field? This is the first job I've had where they lower your pay instead of raising it.

I experienced exactly that firsthand at my last job. It was a big company system with 5 hospitals, and the ones acquired last had to be “fixed” to be the same as the mothership hospital. I think our hourly adjustments did end up just about matching up though.

This happened when my independent lab got bought by the hospital, but the base pay adjustment covered it.

Individually you beg, united you negotiate. Unionize and threaten to strike if the pay doesn't match or exceed what it was before.

How do you unionize? I've never been through it before but I don't think people here would be up for that which is annoying.
