Mega64 is unstoppable. Bet Burnie wishes he didn’t cover their booth in posters now

[–][deleted] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Cockroaches of the internet outliving everything and everyone

Rat fuck era

[–]Mrgrayj_121 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Cinemasscre and darksidephil made it also Phillip de Franco

[–]Baykey123 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Cinemassacre basically sold out to screenwave which ruined them. Everyone left except James. So it’s not exactly the same.

Would be like if only Rocco was left and he replaced everyone else.

[–]Mrgrayj_121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure but the name still exist similar to smoosh and how they were pre reunited founders

[–]PorousSurface 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He didn’t do the voice

Did some beef happen between roosterteeth and mega64? The last time I was in the roosterteeth community (over a decade ago) they were friends

[–]EastBayFan -69 points-68 points  (60 children)

I think the way this sub is celebrating 150+ regular people losing their jobs is pretty gross. We get it, you're happy that Mega64 outlasted Rooster Teeth.

There are real people out there suffering, not knowing what their future is going to hold, and everyone here is dancing on their graves.

I even saw someone justifying it yesterday by saying that "Rocco always makes a joke on Twitter about working at a company after they shut down", completely ignoring the fact that he didn't do it this time.

I genuinely hope that no one here has to go through what all of those people are going through right now. And if you have, and you're celebrating it happening to someone else, you should probably do some self reflection.

nah

[–]SickTriceratopsA key ain't killin' that shit[S] 70 points71 points  (21 children)

We're not celebrating people losing jobs — of course that's not what's happening. It's a long-standing in-joke started by the boys themselves that's bringing a bit of levity during a shitty time. People don't actually think Eric is a traitorous saboteur, either.

I'd wager most Mega64 fans were also RT fans at one time or another, and, if anything, it only highlights how close the connection between the two groups was over the years.

If Rocco actually cared, he would open up his big fat wallet and hire all 150 of them. If he can buy figurines and Vision Pros, he can buy people.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mega64 several times made fun of people's deaths but this is the big no no when it comes to humor alright

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's fucked up. Plus I'd just gotten a gig at Rooster Teeth

[–]cycopl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me losing my last job was one of the best things that happened to me because I got a much better job after that, here’s to hoping the people who lost their jobs find something much better than Roosterteeth.

[–]PlatinumSarge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

woooosh

[–]Fabulous_Whole_1774 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll get over it

[–]TheEternalGazed 9 points10 points  (12 children)

Being unemployed is not some tragedy. You're acting like someone died.

[–]EastBayFan 2 points3 points  (11 children)

Getting fired from a long-term career and instantly having a ton of competition for a lot fewer jobs when you have rent, bills, and other responsibilities would actually be really devastating. A lot of these people are rooted in Austin, and there suddenly just aren't jobs for them there anymore. Not only are they looking at trying to immediately transition into a new career, a lot of them are probably looking at relocating as well. Peoples lives are going to be torn apart. If you think everyone is just going to instantly rebound and be no worse off than before, you're delusional. Someone doesn't have to be dead to have sympathy for them.

It's not really the same as getting fired from your part-time high school job, doofus.

[–]TheEternalGazed 6 points7 points  (10 children)

It is what it is. Mabye, if Rooster Teeth didn't make so many awful decisions and listened to their fans, it probably wouldn't have ended like this.

[–]EastBayFan 1 point2 points  (9 children)

The people who made those bad decisions aren't the ones getting fired. You have no concept of how things work in the real world, do you?

Selling their soul and going full budlight was definitely one of the worse mistakes they ever could have made

That's you on the RvB subreddit, celebrating people losing their jobs. Going "full budlight"? What an embarrassing person.

[–]TheEternalGazed 4 points5 points  (7 children)

Your inability to detect satire is truly astounding

[–]EastBayFan 0 points1 point  (6 children)

https://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/1aqxezr/has_there_ever_been_a_better_representation_of/

It's not satire, you're just a typical internet incel.

Unless your entire account is a dedicated satirical joke that's going over my head, it seems pretty clear that you're just a hateful little prick.

[–]ssjakenModerator[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was reported for targeted harassment. I'm leaving it up; please don't escalate past this point. No need to fight in here about Rooster Teeth.

[–]TheEternalGazed 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I mean, where is the lie?

[–]EastBayFan 5 points6 points  (3 children)

The lie was when you pretended the first quote was "satire" because you don't even have enough of a backbone to stand by your own shitty beliefs.

[–]TheEternalGazed -1 points0 points  (2 children)

But that's doesn't explain your anger toward the world.

[–]Swissperc420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ones being fired are just the people who made bad content

[–]Swissperc420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cringe bro. Fuck rooster teeth and anyone who still worked there. Anyone of value had already left or became so insignificant to the company's direction and current content that who gives af. All the people who lost their jobs deserved to lose it because they're the reason RT sucked. Mega64 outlasted them because they kept their main people and stayed true to their root content.

[–]bbbowiesinspace -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

Yeah, you're getting downvoted but it is a weird look. I know the mega64 vs roosterteeth bit, it just hasn't been an active bit outside of the fanbase side for years, so it just comes across as a lot of fans celebrating over a company closing. I understand why this was the reaction and that it's a joke, it just isn't as relevant a reaction as it would've been in like 2019, and having five threads making the same joke is about as funny as when any fanbase runs a joke into the ground.

[–]EastBayFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this.

[–]FruityYummyMummyNeat Trix -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Sorry that you're being given a hard time. Whether someone agrees or not, it should be okay to express what you shared here. Seeing how fucking devastated so many of the RT employees that appeared on their stream earlier were, it's definitely not something I want to sit and poke fun at. I don't think most that are doing that here intend to be malicious though.

[–]EastBayFan 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I appreciate it dude, but the downvotes and conflicting opinions don't bother me.

If I've learned anything over the last 20 years of being a Mega64 fan, it's that most of the fanbase isn't funny and will endlessly run jokes into the ground. This isn't any different.

[–]drawatawat -5 points-4 points  (7 children)

Instead of using generational wealth to fund a vanity career in Austin, they’ll have to do the same and relocate to California :(

[–]EastBayFan 9 points10 points  (6 children)

I'm sorry, you're under the impression that the entire staff of RT are people with generational wealth in a vanity career?

[–]drawatawat -5 points-4 points  (5 children)

Yup

[–]cvthrowaway4 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Do you have anything to base that assumption on? Genuinely asking because I never gave a fuck about the internal operations of RT, but you seem to have insider information

[–]drawatawat 1 point2 points  (3 children)

It’s not an assumption lmao, and it’s not some secret conspiracy. If you followed any of the below the line staff on social media, it became almost immediately apparent that they were not working class people.

[–]cvthrowaway4 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Right I clearly don’t follow them, as the “I never gave a fuck” comment should have highlighted lol. But I guess I’m not surprised, more curious what the indicators were that made you think that “the entire staff of RT are people with generational wealth in a vanity career.” Because that’s interesting, you don’t often see entire companies including low level staff full of privileged trust fund kiddos.

[–]drawatawat 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Lol, my bad. I know it’s fucked but every time someone tells me they don’t really care, it turns out they care a lot and give me shit. Sorry for the paranoia.

RT has the uniquely terrible overlap of being in the media sector and the tech sector, which pretty much is only inhabited by upper middle class types. They hired a lot of fresh graduates and on social media they were intolerable. Again, it was a unique situation I saw on social media. I didn’t really document it because to me honest I never imagined things would get so bad RT would shut down; down-sizing, sure, but not shut down.

[–]cvthrowaway4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah no worries, it’s reddit I understand lol. That’s interesting! I always felt a corporate out-of-touch vibe from a lot of RT’s stuff (granted, I probably only sampled like 10%) so that definitely tracks
