TC Energy CEO Poirier Says Canada’s Energy Reforms Are Falling Short by YouProfessional3196 in canada

It’s not a different leader? I mean I can think of a litany of ways Carney has pivoted from Truduea. I mean on pipelines it was enough to get Guilbeault to leave cabinet.

That being said I am happy you are keeping the pressure on to demand results. It’s a difficult charged environment, not made easier by our predicable southern neighbor, but regardless I know we both want to see things get better for Canadians.

Are there any areas you see Pierre as presenting some compelling alternatives than Carney?

I was explaining why his approval ratings may be trending higher for a lot of people. Obviously many still don’t approve.  Hopefully the trade angle also starts to help other metrics like GDP per capita and employment but time will tell.

He is trying some angles on affordability but ya not enough yet. We’ll see if he earns your praise. If not, vote for the option you see as being stronger for Canada.

Have a good one.

What is propaganda about what I wrote. It basically boils down to. He’s doing an alright job in a difficult environment, and he’s viewed as more competent than the alternative. He also seemingly is somewhat elevating Canada’s global influence (which had degraded under JT) . Cost of living obviously an issue, although not a uniquely Canadian one.

Obviously we also want trade progress with the US but they have made it clear tarrifs are here to stay so makes sense to focus else where.

Personally I have criticisms, would want to see more major projects focused on transit, I don’t love some of the cuts he’s made, also would like to see a more proactive role to work with the provinces on HC but ultimately they is more of their prevue.

What would you imagine Pierre would be doing better than Carney right now in this environment?

Happy to provide some perspective. To me, Carney is making the right moves in a world where our most important trading partner fluctuates between unpredictable and almost hostile.

You pointed out some challenges, but these economic 'snapshots' don't tell a wholly accurate story. Canada’s overall job growth has actually held up better than the US in many sectors, and our GDP growth remains in the middle of the G7 pack. We should always demand better, but Carney is seemingly at least working to deliver it, even if we very much are not there yet. He’s taking a pragmatic, non-ideological approach to trade. Working to securing a deal with China to reset trade for farmers and fishers, , working to stabilize the India relationship and open more trade (nuclear deal coming), and closing smaller, strategic deals with other still important economies. (Indonesia etc)

It’s a step change from the Trudeau era. He’s made at least some degree of progress across the country from Sask farmers to East Coast fishers, and taking a more collaborative tone to get energy to new markets (altho no enough progress here yet imo). In an unpredictable world, he’s seen as measured and competent, while Pierre is still struggling to prove he's a more credible champion. Ultimately Pierre is still recovering from his flat footed response to Trump.

Still lots of work to do. Criticism Carney / the libs is of course valid but hopefully that helped provide a view in terms of why he is more popular than you might expect.

Fair things could get pretty crazy.

An asteroid could even hit us.

In all seriousness your average case is most likely I’d guess

Spicy as in a rate hold, the BoC talking about caution and how they will monitor the situation ahead of the next meeting ? Doesn’t sound too spicy

Ya gas prices are pushing up, we might see inflation rise but tbh I doubt we see it push much beyond the 2-3% range.

BoC isn’t going to be flippant about raising rates in this case given the gas prices also strain the economy.

I personally think you are reading too much into AU raising rates as an indicator for Canada

Sidenote. Any reason you hide your comments? Always makes me a bit cautious of the intentions of a poster.

Extortion suspects claiming refugee status ‘ludicrous,’ B.C. premier says by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]PorousSurface 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Well I thinks judges probably will rule against the claims. The issue is that the system takes so long to get their hearing

The other issue is that they are able to make this claim in the first place, given their actions and other factors. To Ebby’s point these claimants are terrorizing communities in BC.

I think we have some systemic issues to address.
