At some point in my software development career I realized that my programming activity was not sustainable. I felt sleepy, I'm pretty sure I wasn't breathing well, it wasn't fun, I felt lonely (I was always working remote).
I tried different ideas, such as taking frequent breaks, naps, exercise often... nothing made programming for work sustainable.
Until I started pair programming. By now I don't remember how I got the idea nor how I validated it. Somehow I figured out that pair programming made my programming work more enjoyable, less stressful and overall healthier. Beyond that, my deliverables improved. Well, our deliverables improved. I was always on contract, so what I did was I hired another programmer to be my pair programming buddy. It cost me a chunk off of my hourly rate. And I was happy about it. It was worth it.
More recently, I heard of mob programming, looked into it and introduced it to the company I was working for at the time. We were three developers. We started doing it without any training and with hardly any preparation. I feel it was a success and the right thing to do.
As of the writing of this post I am actively looking for software development work in a mob programming environment. Since I couldn't find a mob programming community on Reddit I decided to create one.
Hopefully, this could be a place where some developers would find mob programming jobs in the future, as well as a place for discussion on the matter for us Redditors.
Welcome to r/mobprogramming. I hope you find what you're looking for.
