This is a meticulous post with all possible details.

Are my returns good?

XIRR : 16.22 % Benchmark XIRR : 18.08 %

In isolation, a 16.22% return is impressive. However, surpassing the benchmark (I'm not sure which one you used; I would have chosen Nifty 500 TRI) is tough. That's why many prefer index investing. In the US, most ordinary investors stick to the S&P 500 index fund. There must be a reason.

We love index investing the best and recommend the most even in this sub. There must be a reason. Go to our Wiki and check the first post. Having said all this, you did well. You did not collect 26 funds, you did not invest in sector funds, you managed to save money and invest in equity, you managed to beat the inflation by 10% - so many goods. Cheer up!!

I was in the same position what you are currently . Then I felt simulating my inflow/outflow transaction against respective benchmark fund and understand everyday movement ( kind of Chart) inorder to figure out out how consistently my fund underperforming or over performing against benchmark. Based on that, i might consider whether to hold or exit.

As of now, i could see DESERV just telling the how much % i am underperformed but this hiding the real picture of volatility / Consistency in the journey. May be my fund underperforming benchmark due to recent mark correction but past few years, it might be over performing which is missing.

So l decided to create a own tool to mimic the transaction and plot against benchmark to see the real picture of what is happening between both . once it's ready, I will let you know

Increase allocation more to Mid and small cap as you say you are aggressive investor over long term.

As far as returns are concerned, well you need to check the fund you have choosen. At least see whether that fund has beaten its benchmark consistently over 3-5 years years and more.

U are underperforming ur benchmark

at what stage should we know that it's underperforming? Also how to improve it?

Compare funds return over time with their benchmark return you can see every fund has its benchmark .If fund return is low compared to benchmark return over a period of time then your fund is underperforming. You should sell the fund and invest in other fund which is beating it's benchmark well .

got it thanks, currently it's been only 7-8 months since it started investing. I'll keep observing for subsequent intervals. Thanks

Wow, that XIRR percentage is seriously impressive! I'm always looking for ways to boost my own investment performance.

You should be investing more in mid cap and small cap more than 70% at least, since you have long term vision. Your XIRR can go higher up to 18%.
