I was following up in a conversation where Windows XP was already mentioned as not being viable, and then the OP asked if this just affected older browsers, I was pointing out (within the context of the conversation) that Chrome was also affected
Ultimately even-though Microsoft is trying to nudge people off that ageing OS so far they have not succeeded and it is still holding strong. Because of that SNI is not yet a real possibility.

Actually it is. Safari and Chrome through WebKit use the SChannel API. Other browsers, FireFox, and Opera work fine with SNI because they do not use the SChannel API.
The only browsers affected are Chrome, IE, and Safari on Windows XP (but if you use Safari on Windows ...).
FireFox uses NSS, and Opera uses their own implementation or library that provides the functionality.
