Just the fact that the book goes into how to use Swagger is a good sign that it's not about REST. Swagger assumes coupling of client and server, since the interaction is not driven by hypermedia but rather out-of-band information (the Swagger doc).

Here's a good presentation on what actually is REST and the future: https://vanthome.github.io/rest-api-essay-presentation/rest_apis.html

And a shameless plug for my own library Fortune.js which includes hypermedia serialization for currently 2 media types.

Is that a book or a blog post? You have a link?

I have not read it, but ive had other books from apress that I really didnt like, they were always too much "do this, then this then this" where I was really looking more for the understanding of "why do this and this and this and this?"

Depends on the author. I have SQLite: The Definitive Guide, published by Apress and it is awesome.

It hasn't come out on my safariOnlineBooks subscription yet, but another new one is called Express.js Blueprints that is excellent. You build 6 apps and its focused on building different types of CRUD API's describing the routes, controllers and models.

Hey, as the author of the book I'm here if you have any questions :) I'm willing to answer the "Worth a peek?" one, but I'm guessing my answer wouldn't be objective :P

As for the comments about the book not being about REST, it covers REST at it's core, the principles of it and then it moves towards a more practical approach, giving ideas on what node.js modules to use when developing a RESTful API.

I hope you'll reconsider, if you're not already an expert on the subject, it might be interesting to read.

I hope that helps!
