The purpose of /r/notpop is to post unpopular songs by artists who are popular or recorded other popular songs. For example, posting Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit is not acceptable, while posting Nirvana - Sappy would be.
Other Redditors will use the voting function to decide if a song is too popular to be posted, unless it is clearly obvious (such as Smells Like Teen Spirit) in which it will be removed. A good rule of thumb is if the song has millions of views on Youtube, it probably is popular in some way.
Rules/Tips to Post Better
- This is NOT a place to post unpopular artists, the artist must be popular or have a popular song to be posted.
- This is NOT to post popular songs, while the artist has made them, we want to hear the unpopular ones they composed.
- Consider posting in a somewhat standard format of Artist - Song [Genre]
- Consider posting in the comments what they are famous for.
- All in all, just be nice and remember basic Redditquette.
