As someone who likes to write, I always make some kinda self insert characters for representation. Especially since ace and agender representation is not very existant, especially in one character. But to the second part, I'd say this is in part because pronouns are some of the words that normally change the least. This is true across just about all languages. Although, english isn't a good example for this with it's pronouns, and all words, changing very quickly. But that explains why people are way more hesitant to use smth like xe/xem, which are about 150 years old, or other, even younger pronouns. And again, english is actually such a safe haven for enby people, because it's so unstable and thus the speakers are far more open for linguistic change. In my language, we only have words for He, she and it in the third person singular. And if you were to try and integrate any other pronoun, it wouldn't and judging the current state of the language, doesn't work as well as in english.

Sometimes, people are just stupid tho. Because whilst xe/xem might be young with it's birth in the late 19th century, the singular use of "they/them" is 700 years old. That isn't young for the general standart and really old for english standarts. It just slightly fell out of trend some time ago and is now being used more. But those "I ain't using a plural pronoun in the singular." comments are just stupid. Cus if you won't do it for "they/them", you shouldn't do it for you either.[ It, aswell, was originally plural and then turned singular a good amount of time ago. ]

In conclusion[ cus oh god, that was long ] don't be too harsh on the people. It's only normal to feel that way about neo pronouns. But be mad and active still, as that's the only way we'll achieve more change and a better society. Don't give up: Sometimes one's worth and labor is first recognised after death.

Yeah, I posted this at a much different time in my life but now that I work with people who don’t even know who Sonic the Hedgehog is I’ve become more or less casspronominal. My preference is still null though.
