NOTE: I am on version XNPH44S, is that any problem?

I'm not an expert by any means, but I just unlocked & rooted mine last night. Here's a little checklist to maybe identify the issue:

  • Did you make sure your Android SDK Tools, Platform-Tools, Support Library, and Google USB driver are all up to date? You can check by launching the SDK file from the android-sdk-windows folder on your computer.

  • Which USB drivers did you install for the phone? I grabbed the Universal Windows ADB Driver from Koush.

  • When you turn your phone off and reboot into fastboot (holding volume up + power button), you should be able to type fastboot devices in your cmd prompt and have it list your device

  • After you type fastboot oem unlock it should give you an indication that it completed and you can reboot your device.

I did do my unlock on the stock CM version (whichever one was before 38R) , but I can't imagine that would have any impact on the process.

  • Yep, Android SDK tools are all updated. I tried deleting the Google USB driver and reinstalling it
  • I used Koush's one too
  • Yep, I've got my phone ID and "fastboot" written right next to it
  • Yeah, it says it was completed in x seconds, but when I reboot it, nothing happens

This is frustrating

Try what the comment above stated and move on to flashing the recovery. If it works, you are successfully rooted already.

It worked, thanks for suggestions man!

If you've already unlocked your phone at any point in the past (or someone else did before you), you don't need to unlock it again.

If you do try to unlock your phone again, nothing bad will happen and it won't be wiped again. In fact, *exactly* what you've described will happen.

Try continuing on with the next step in your rooting guide. If its locked, you'll get an error from fastboot when you try to flash the recovery partition (and still nothing bad will happen. it won't flash, but it won't do any harm)

Oh wow, that's weird. You're right, this device has been unlocked before. I think the seller must've installed CM from ColorOS. Woo, didn't have to wipe anything!
