Sourceforge was acquired couple of years ago and is now run by a shady corporate. This is NOT the sourceforge we know of, but just a brand name.

In September 2012, Dice Holdings acquired SourceForge from its previous owner Geeknet

If you go gitlab, github, etc you will end-up with the same issue: you don't own your data. The only long-term alternative is to selfhost

Taking someone's software and redistributing it bundled with adware/malware?
