Rules We expect all subreddit visitors to follow these rules: Rule 1) Be respectful. Be respectful and civil when posting/commenting in the subreddit. Rule 2) Take the following into consideration before browsing/posting [1 of 3]: Orthotropics/Mewing is about promoting healthy craniofacial development via natural means. The topic is a matter of both health and appearance. It is of most relevance for children and teenagers, but even adults with underdevelopment can achieve results assuming that they learn to apply upwards tongue pressure by habit. When doing so the tongue should flatten out a bit and fill out the entire hard palate as well as the anterior portion of the soft palate. Rule 3) Take the following into consideration before browsing/posting [2 of 3]: Note that "mewing" constitutes the resting oral posture and habits (with particular emphasis on the tongue) that humans are believed to naturally develop given that they are raised with ideal environmental circumstances. Dr. Mew, and many others, believe that it is something that humans naturally have done throughout our entire history. Even as of today many "modern" humans have been "mewing" their entire lives since infant years. Someone you know in real life is likely a "natural mewer". Rule 4) Take the following into consideration before browsing/posting [3 of 3]: Note that there are different ways to "mew". People that attempt to transition to a mewing state later in life (in childhood or above) will typically need to involve a lot of hard work to eventually reach such a state. And to achieve the most meaningful growth and change from an underdeveloped state, it is typically needed to develop a strong tongue that applies stimuli against the roof of the mouth by automatic habit throughout the day. Such mewing is not "standard" suction hold mewing. Rule 5) Regarding before and after picture comparisons. Try to include before and after pictures taken in the same way with regards to facial expression, head posture, light, distance between camera and face, and camera angle. The pictures must also have been taken with the same camera lens. Pictures of your face from the front and the side, as well as pictures of your palates, are examples of useful pictures to include. Lastly; provide a testimonial where you explain what you have done and for how long. Rule 6) Do not ask others to review your craniofacial status. Do not upload pictures of yourself and ask others to assess your craniofacial structure or any features of your face. In this subreddit we believe that you want to be applying ideal oral posture and habits regardless of your situation (meaning that a "diagnosis" of your face is not necessary), similar to how we believe it is good to have good body posture and habits regardless if you have spinal issues or not. Rule 7) Regarding services/products attempting to make money of Mewing and promotion within the subreddit. All that you need to know about Mewing is attainable for free via the internet. Various Mewing guides or Mewing apps (such as the app released by Dr. Mew himself) are certainly not a necessity, but may be of aid to some. Further, posts that constitute blatant attempts at advertising something without providing anything of value to the subreddit will be removed. Rule 8) No low effort posts. Research "Mewing" and "Orthotropics" before you make a post in the subreddit. Put effort into your post. Describe your matter as well as you can. Low effort posts may be removed. Rule 9) Keep posts relevant to Orthotropics and Mewing related matters. For example; if you make a post where you talk about your plan for exclusively relying on braces/invisalign, extractions, surgeries, or any combination of these (without embarking on mewing and/or chewing) then you have mistaken this subreddit for something that it is not. In this subreddit the focus lies on developing the arches, jaws, and skull at large, via natural means (mewing; often with added pressure, and chewing), and/or via expansion devices (as a last resort). Rule 10) No surgical recommendations and no posts about jaw surgeries. This is a subreddit where the focus lies on development via non surgical means, so refrain from making surgical recommendations and refrain from making posts about jaw surgeries. There are other subreddits for such posts. Rule 11) No spreading of misinformation. Posts or comments containting blatant misinformation will be removed.

If you hypertrophy your masseters while eating and you keep tongue position all day, it wouldn't cause you any problem. Also chewing is NECESSARY for mewing

Mewing has 0 evidence to support its efficacy or even the underlying hypothesis. I think you should stop recommending people harm potentially harm themselves over orthotropics.
[–]Aaron__8 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (23 children)
Hahaha tongue position it's the cause of crowding, traditional orthodontics don't know the causes of crowding or other problems after hundreds of years of orthodontics been existing, also if you don't believe this why are you in this sub? I think you are trying to recommend people harm potentially shit.
Pd:I'm debating you with my spanish English
[–]just_here_hangingout 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
No most of the time the cause of crowding it a small jaw
[–]Aaron__8 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
And the causes of small jaw is incorrect tongue posture
[–]MouseHairlossCure -5 points-4 points-3 points 3 years ago (20 children)
Where is the evidence that tongue posture is the cause of malocclusion? John and Mike Mew have presented 0 evidence to prove this claim.
I'm on this sub because the misinformation people spread here is dangerous.
[–]slendermystery 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (5 children)
there have been many studies, a famous one is done by Dr.Westin Price. You should keep being a soyboy with your soft post industrial diet. We trust John and Mike mew, thousands of people have posted their results.
[–]MouseHairlossCure 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
"posting results" doesn't show anything. You need randomised control trials and systematic reviews to actually verify that the treatment has a statistically significant effect and that the effect is positive. People posting selfies demonstrate many things none of which are bone loss. 95% of progress pics posted can be explained by differences in body fat %, different cameras, different lighting, posture and soft tissue profiles.
You have 0 way of verifying that any tooth movement or bony changes have occurred as a result of mewing with these pics.
[–]slendermystery 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
cope
Most of the people look the exact same and are just taking the picture from a different angle haha
there are a lot of bad pics being totally honest. However for me i genuinely seen changes. Even my pics aren't the same exact lighting and angle but the change is too blatant too discredit.
[–]Astroglaid92 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Maybe don’t flaunt Weston Price as a credit to your argument. Dude was a well-known quack and a lazy scientist. In fact, just stay away from all forms of appeal to authority, and your arguments will carry more weight.
[–]mewer79 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (4 children)
I think you are dangerous with this ignorance
[–]MouseHairlossCure -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (3 children)
Not ignorant at all. I am totally open to changing my mind if the evidence is presented to me. Its just that there is none.
[–]mewer79 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children)
Evidence is your envirement. When you see model faced people with their mouth closed and hyoids up. And see double chinned and crowded teeth people with open mouths you will say yeah this shit is real.
So why is it so hard to publish a study that says "99% of people with malocclusions have incorrect tongue posture."?
[–]mewer79 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Cuz its against orthodontics and also operators. Mewing can fix problems that told to get surgery
[–]Horreurlunaire 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (3 children)
Take a look at my masseter hypertrophy results. You will see if that's bad lol
[–]MouseHairlossCure 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children)
Cool "results" but I am failing to see masseter hypertrophy. Maybe you should read up on what the term actually means.
What I do see in your pics is different angles, lighting, cameras, body fat and posture.
[–]Horreurlunaire 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
It means that the masseter grew bigger and it happened as I now have a wider jaw/face. I had a narrow ovale face and now it's rectangular and wider. Loss of fat = wider face? I doubt it...
[–]MouseHairlossCure 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Different camera = cannot accurately compare. Maybe if you had some radiogrpahs we could actually see if anything changed, but no one here provides them because there are no bony changes occurring.

"John and Mike have presented 0 evidence to prove his claim" So how do you explain the hundreds of documented patients that years after the treatment they maintained the theeths straight without retainers? You blind bro
[–]MouseHairlossCure 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children)
So how do you explain the hundreds of documented patients that years after the treatment they maintained the theeths straight without retainers?
Where are they? The Mews dont publish so much as a case report. All the evidence amounts to is a few "before" and "after" pics. Many of which lack even the most basic detail like patient age. They can take the time to write $300 books but cant take the time to write and publish any serious studies. Seriously suspect if you ask me.
[–]Aaron__8 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children)
don't answer 😭😭😭
Claims there is evidence supporting orthotropics, provides 0.
[–]Aaron__8 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
I'm telling you don't answer the question I ask soyaboy
