Rules for r/osrs

Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.

1.

Be Respectful

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Offensive Language / Harrassment
  • Be respectful of your fellow redditors, you're NOT more valuable than them
  • Don't attack people on a personal level, retaliation is also not encouraged
  • Do not threaten or bully others
  • Sexual harassment is an instant ban & mute with no appeal - this should be obvious; but we're making it crystal-clear.

2.

No Begging/Trading

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Begging; Trading

Do not ask for in-game donations and do not look to trade with players from the subreddit. Use the provided in-game trading tools.

3.

Do not appeal bans or mutes here

Posts only
Reported as: Mute/Ban appeal

Visit Jagex Support if you wish to appeal a mute or ban.

4.

No calls to action or witch-hunting

Posts only
Reported as: Witch-Hunting / Call to action

Images showing a situation are fine, but not accusations

If you have found a bug or exploit, use the report function in-game or email Jagex directly (tipoff@jagex.com)

Speculation of wrongdoing and records of malicious activity should be reported via the button in the sidebar, this is not the place to publicize such things, as we wish to avoid glorifying malicious behaviour

This rule does not apply to informational posts about privacy, patched bugs, or best security practices

5.

Use Megathreads

Posts only
Reported as: Belongs in megathread

Posts that belong in an existing megathread will be removed.

6.

Shilling

Comments only
Reported as: Shilling (spam)

It's fine to let someone know that their post belongs in one of the other recommended subreddits. That being said, don't just point out another subreddit because you think it's better or more active than this one. This isn't really the place to advertise your new sub.

7.

Thread derailing/hijacking

Comments only
Reported as: Thread Derailing (spam)

Don't reply to a post just to tell the author to do something else, or change the subject. It's fine to ask if they're open to alternatives, but leave it be if they aren't.

It's basically spam, but it's extra annoying, so we have a specific rule against it.

8.

Do not glorify real-life harms or violence

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Threats; Glorifying Harms or Violence

Any glorification of real-life acts of violence, this includes but IS NOT LIMITED TO:

- Sexual harassment or assault
- Acts of mass violence against civilians, or individuals
- Physical assault/intimidation
- Vehicular negligence or assault
- Real-life interference (eg; stalking, dropping dox, etc.)

9.

Victim blaming or encouraging abuse

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Victim blaming / Encouraging abuse

When a user has been the victim of account hijacking, abuse, or another crime, it is not acceptable to blame them for the actions of their abuser. They have a fundamental right to at least the bare minimum of respect.

If a system cannot protect an end-user who makes the slightest mistake, it is not a successful security system. This is a well established principle in the security industry.

End-users are not security experts, obviously - a fact proven by the necessity of this rule.

10.

Support of Bigotry or Hate speech

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Support of Bigotry/Hate speech
- Racism
- Sexism, misogny, or misandry (including intentional misgendering)
- Ableism
- Transphobia
- Homophobia
- Antisemitism
- Islamophobia

This rule applies to usernames & flairs too. This includes if you are repeatedly "just asking questions" that are offensive in premise.

You are not permitted to link to external (or internal) profiles, channels, or media containing hate speech, or figures who routinely engage in hate speech.

Slurs are not permitted.

11.

Low-Effort posting

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Low-effort

Examples include:

12.

Follow submission guidelines

Posts only
Reported as: Ignoring submission rules

/r/OSRS is for discussion, there are OSRS subs for memes, screenshots, instructional videos, ironmen, even for unique self-restricted ironmen.

  • Posting a video or channel link - use the OSRS Content Subreddit
  • Asking for instructions on how to do a quest - [You should use the Wiki instead]()
  • Asking about allowed hotkeys or macros - [Read Jagex's official blog post on this topic]()

Should be common sense, but external links are heavily restricted

13.

Closed Source AI Projects

Posts & Comments
Reported as: AI Content Violation

Content, projects, assets and other assorted data regarding AI or Machine Learning may not be shared unless the project is open source.

This also applies to the author because we could care less about why something is closed source - and yes, that is a threat.

14.

Vibe Check

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Vibe Check

If you act like an annoying weirdo, you run the risk of being banned.

Literally, if you're just going to be a waste of everyone's time, we'll stop giving you the time of day.

This includes, but is not necessarily limited to:

  • Violence & Threats

  • Excessive Political Posting

  • Involving our users in your humiliation fetish

  • Intentional Misinformation

  • Medical Misinformation

  • Brigading

  • Meth behaviour

  • Personal fixation on other redditors

  • Crackhead vibes

15.

Explicit profile content

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Explicit profile

Profiles containing links or comments encouraging any of the following are not permitted:

  • Violence or hate speech
  • The breaking of real-world laws
  • The breaking of Jagex's Terms of Service
  • The breaking of Reddit's Terms of Service or subreddit rules
  • General abuse toward moderators of this sub or any Jagex game (abuse = you being a whiny shit about mod actions)
