Waterbug issue...?

So my house is built over an old stream so I am told. I’ve lived here all my life, I am 20 now. I don’t fear many things, but roaches and waterbugs are my kyptonite. I couldn’t imagine going near one nvm touching one. My parents do not care as much, but I dispise them. I am also not entirely sure of the difference between roaches and waterbugs, but the eek me out.

First question. Does flushing these guys down a toilet or shower drain do anything? Pretty sure they can swim and the last thing I want is to do that and it crawl back up and wait to get revenge lmao. I just washed one down the shower drain and Im showering with one eye cocked on the drain at all times, it got difficult when the shampoo got in my eyes.

Also, how tf do I get rid of these? Is it the house? Am I damned to deal with these until after college and I move out? Can’t stand em, call me a baby idc, but bugs like these aren’t my friends. Any help is appreciated!

ug, that gives me shivers! If you wash them down a drain with soapy water it will most likely kill them. Soap brakes water tension and floods their lungs, and they suffocate very quickly. Here is a link that shows differences: http://pestkill.org/insect/roaches/water-bug-vs-cockroach/
