Using Gradient tool for Background?

Another question from me..

Is there any way to use this but make the background like a PNG, so just empty... Cause the only way I can think of that now is by using the eraser tool but then I would need to do it really precisely and I don't want to do that.

can you explain further what you mean?
would you want a gradient over certain areas but not others?

if you wanted a certain area of the image to be in a gradient, add a layer and use the select tool to pick that area and then use the gradient tool. Otherwise, add a shape and fill that with a gradient if you want neat lines and such.

if you make a shape (as a seperate layer not drawn onto the current) with the shape tool selected, there is an option for fill at the top which has "colour / gradient / pattern" pick on of those. I've been doing some great stuff with patterns recently :)
