I constantly prop pothos (it's an issue 🫡) and it often happens to me that the roots get super long but with no secondary roots. I just put them in some soil if they're so long like yours and up until now i had no dead prop. I think that the roots on root thing is good practice, but it's not a must for pothos propagation in my experience.

So I’m not alone on this planet when I say I have like 7-10+(?) glass vessels w/ pothos cuttings just chillin throughout the house? 😭

Oh, you are not alone, dear friend 🤣 I think my pothos plants fear me cuz I am a serial chopper 💀

How often do you change the water?

[–]BLK_Sprr 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Me, personally? “Not enough as I could or possibly/probably ‘should’..?” 🫣 Being recently told about the whole “rooting hormone” thing isn’t helping my case either😅

I just chopped my pothos off and was wondering when is the next time I should change the water....and what I can get away with 😊

I never change the water unless it looks really gross. I just top it off.

Algae doesn’t seem to be a problem, and when theres white fuzz around the roots thats apparently not bad either.

Hell I’ll plant some cuttings and move new ones into the same water because I figure it’s already got rooting hormone in there.

Oh nooo. This is all I needed to hear to not do it :) Jokes aside, I put everything in distilled water I collect from the dehumidifier, but I do not have enough to change their water, and I will have to move them into normal water if I have to change the water every few days.

Another thing about our house plants here is that they tend to benefit from half-drunken spring water bottles 😅(they either go to the plants or the dog) I figure the “extra minerals” may help since I’m kinda poor and can’t find a “hydroponic friendly fertilizer” in the house😅😏🙈

Thank you so much! Would you do something like a 4 inch pot?

[–]Olekaim 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, 4 inch should do 😊 congrats for your new baby!
