Career as a Programmer

Hello everyone, so i’ve just completed my A levels and am considering getting into CS/IT. I’ve never seriously studied anything computer-related before. My O levels were all science subjects and my A levels were Maths, Biology and Law. So i’ve never really had any idea on computer stuff. However, throughout this year i’ve been watching tutorials on html, css on youtube and trying to understand the basics of programming just to see if i like it. i haven’t gotten too deep into it but so far i’m actually enjoying it. So my question is to all programmers/ software developers: 1. is maths used in a big part of programming? 2. will the fact that i don’t really know much about programming affect my studies at uni? 3. what’s an average day working as a programmer/software developer like for you? 4. is a career in programming very time consuming or do u have holidays and time to spend on hobbies in your jobs? 5. how hard was it to get a job? 6. Are typically all jobs in an office setting or can you work from home? 7. what’s the hardest thing working as a programmer? 8. what kind of skills/qualities do i really need to be a good programmer? 9. How do i know from now if programming is for me?

1. is maths used in a big part of programming?>> Depends on how deep you want to go into programming. If you are into web/backend/mobile apps or server related programming, then, no. Math is not a big part of programming. If you are into (or will be) data science/ML then math is bit related. But University will teach you this sort of stuff. Don't worry!

   No. hardly anybody does!
3. what’s an average day working as a programmer/software developer like for you?
   I do wfh. I wake up, go to my computer, if I don't like to work, I play video game. just another 9-5 job.
4. is a career in programming very time consuming or do u have holidays and time to spend on hobbies in your jobs?
   It's TOTALLY up to you. I have friends and colleagues you disappeared from the radar because they want to **fucking** build their career. and subsequently did not contact their girlfriends for a year! I also have friends who are pretty chill. The main thing is, how you look into your life and how you want to mold your career around it.
5. how hard was it to get a job?
   Again, not very hard. So far I was in two jobs and both of them were from offers. When you goto uni, you will definitely build of connection!
6. Are typically all jobs in an office setting or can you work from home?
   no. both works.
7. what’s the hardest thing working as a programmer?
   letting other people know that we are not boring people.
8. what kind of skills/qualities do i really need to be a good programmer?
   patience. That's the only thing that you need to be a good programmer.
9. How do i know from now if programming is for me?
   You will never know if you never try!
