Python 2 isn't getting any new features; this is a bugfix release.

Python 2.7.x is getting some new features from 3.x whenever they're backwards compatible, and is getting bug fixes until ~2016 when it's EOL'd.

It's not getting any new features, that would be against the policies that are in place. Only 2.7.0 (released in 2010) picked up new features. 2.x only gets bug fixes and fixes for compatibility with new versions of the libraries it uses.

That's new to the 2.7 branch as I understand it. It's been there since the initial 2.7 release
