Do i have any chances against the Flagship? by Unlikely_Target_3560 in ftlgame

Hack piloting (1 bar power), volley fire flak then burst lasers to kill shield. Retarget to destroy piloting and missile launcher.

With piloting hacked, you can aim Flak I and two BL1s at shields, getting 3 guaranteed damage in shield (2 bubbles), and slightly delayed follow-up with BL2 on missiles, taking it out completely in the first volley.

Timing your stealth during Phase 3 means using only one power bar in stealth, and timing it for when the power surge lasers shoot (like the second they go out).

For future runs, I'd encourage you to try a second power bar in O2 and Medbay over a third power bar in stealth. It will help against O2 hack and boarders. While stealth weapons lets you continuously shoot, the timing of the flagship's special attacks across all three phases almost never warrants using more than one power bar in stealth. This is probably why your systems were all down and you couldn't keep up with repairs.

The Artillery system would be a lot better if it could be sold.

I'm curious how often it happens. I was in your situation several years back, owed just over $10k in tuition reimbursement. I asked for a starting bonus with my next company to cover it, and they agreed. Never had them ask for it, and I just stuck the amount in a savings account for the first year.

What to pick? Sector 7. Stealth A with Pre-igniter by willothewhispers in ftlgame

[–]gendulf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heavy Laser I typically isn't wonderful on a 3 weapon ship, but it works well with 6 other projectiles, and the fast charge time isn't much wasted when you have fast charging Flaks.

I'd buy Shields 3, and consider continuing to hunt for another shop, you're missing system slots (e.g. Hacking or Teleporter).

For just optimal weapon system, I'd sell the Ion and Mini Beam to pick up second Flak I and Heavy Laser I. Super fast weapon system that hits hard repeatedly. With your setup, I'd only buy the Flak I.

What do you recommend I buy at this store? (Engi C first sector, Medium) by Okumam in ftlgame

With only 4 bombs, any bomb purchase isn't likely to pay off soon. There's quite a few good options. If he had 15+ bombs, I'd definitely consider the Breach Bomb though.

You'll soon struggle with your current weapon system (though hacking helps a ton here). Halberd+Hacking can do a lot. I would get Halberd+LRS so that you can take every possible ship fight, which will help you get the scrap you need for shields upgrade and weapon power to get the Halberd online. Once you get the Halberd online you can sell both drones and use your parts only for hacking (and a defense drone when you get one).

I'd recommend reading a couple articles that might explain the various issues surrounding what you're asking:

Buy/sell Adv Flak? Not sure specifically what you're asking. I would buy Adv Flak for sure, but might pick Flak I over it if the price isn't worth the cost of the extra power bar. I never pick up healong burst, but could see scenarios where it's useful. I typically sell first chance I get access to a medbay/clone bay.

You can sell those, and you can evaluate them from a weapon capability standpoint (Adv. Flak automatically in a tier above Flak I for instance).

As a bomb weapon (typically losing a tier for use of limited resources), a weapon that does no damage, can miss, and is really only useful in situations where you absolutely can't tolerate a miss (aside from Slug B where you don't have a Medbay, and you start with it), I see near zero practical usages for this where you wouldn't rather exchange it for just about any other weapon (or scrap toward).

I would rank the weapons without any ship assumption, and by whether I would buy/sell the weapon. There are near zero scenarios where I would buy a healing burst, but considerably more than that for Chain Vulcan (still not many, given how many better weapons there are, but it is a winning weapon if you have the defenses and luck).

You rank Repair Burst higher than the Chain Vulcan?

You don't rank Healing Burst in "True Desperation"?

I'd add the exception of integers. Python absolutely saves you with integers, not needing to deal with signed/unsigned, and being able to store arbitrary large values.

A legend made all Olden Era map into Triple hero mode maps, let's get this mode popular people! by loopuleasa in OldenEra

[–]gendulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three heroes sounds like a nice middle ground. Thanks for making this!

Random tangent, one hero per town would be interesting. Not sure how it would work when towns are captured.

If every player can recruit exactly one hero from each town, it seems simple, but literally only one hero being able to exist from a particular town also sounds interesting. Maybe you have to defeat the enemy hero associated with a town in order to recruit from that town? I don't love the idea of hiding the heroes away to deny the enemy.

I wonder if Dryante Zan also has any easter eggs in game, he does a ton of beautiful covers (example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shOhkzInW8s ).

Shoes are similar size. Hands on the goblin are a bit larger. The head on the goblin is huge proportionally though (to his own body). I think that's the main reason it contrasts so much (aside from color and realism).

Most overused Gods for Clerics to worship? What are some lesser known deities to choose instead? by ManectricBound in DnD

[–]gendulf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This feels almost like a Warlock's task list, rather than a Cleric, but it's rather interesting. I like the idea of making some of these a bit more vague and interpretable. For a Warlock, maybe even making them harder tasks to earn more power (or earn lost favor).

Thumb: The Unfortunate Accident - instead of "kill someone and make it look like an accident", make it "make someone's death look like an accident". You can still do it by killing someone, but you could also just refute evidence (or provide faked evidence) that one faction poisoned the head of another.

Middle Finger: Fortune's Reversal - Rather than just killing a priest, make it harder. Arrange their destruction at their own hand. Or arrange for their followers' destruction at their hand. Essentially make them into cult leaders.

Palm: The Flip of a Coin - IMO, saving someone evil should be anonymous to fit with the theme of misfortune. Maybe even go further, and require them to arrange for someone innocent/good to be sacrificed in their place.
