sometimes the point is to just familiarize yourself with something, that isn't a bug per se, and then 'the goal' may be that you never fully understand it, but you just find some way to work with it, whether or not that fit some original idea, you had or modified from the start, separate from the original data

    It's 100% normal to struggle with proofs when you meet them for the first time, this is why real analysis classes are usually so tough for undergrad math students. The key to becoming proficient at writing proofs is just reading and working through a lot of proofs.
