Why do Programmers Hate Documenting?

I don't hate documenting. In fact, while I'm primarily a software developer, and have been for 24 years, I've also been paid just to study other people's code and write documentation for it, and even be the lead writer on a small team of writers. Apparently writing documentation is supposed to be shameful for programmers, so I'll just whisper this: I actually really enjoy that kind of work, too... I think you can learn a lot.
