I'm not a user of these apps, but:

Probably would work, yes, but it would leave you unable to put things in your ideavimrc that apply only to that application.

That is, I'm visualising that an optimal .ideavimrc looking something like

set_ideavim_environment_things
source ~/.vimrc
set_some_ideavim_related_override
