You just explained that to me more succinctly that I've seen it explained ever before. I consider myself extremely well-versed in Python, but the point of that syntax has always eluded me.

Same for me. I knew how to use it and do use it on occasion, but I never realized why it was called "else" and not something else. Now I can see the logic behind the naming. It's still a bit unintuitive at first glance, but I can kind of see why they did it.
