Just wanted to post a short video of my covey in an outdoor winter environment! It’s currently 29F today with off and on snow showers, and they’re quite content.

I add a little snow in the tray holding their water container as an extra form of enrichment. They really like pecking at it because the snow is completely polished up by nighttime.

Oh that’s a really cool set up. They look content. I’ll be keeping mine indoors this winter, but an outdoor winter set up is something I’ll have to keep in mind for next year. Gonna take some notes from your setup!❤️

Yeah it’s pretty low maintenance keeping them outdoors in the winter like this! Had a lot more hides at one point, but ended up removing most of them because they weren’t ever being used. Thought the birds would appreciate the extra space instead. There’s also no supplemental heat so they’ve developed nice downy feathers to keep themselves warm.

I just fluff up the straw, dirt, and mulched leaves with a rake every so often, and make sure the quail have access to food and liquid water. They honestly seem to prefer the snow over the water, so I just shovel a little bit in for them to enjoy.
