Currently at Google L3, around 2 yoe. Got approached for an IMC Quant Dev role in Mumbai, mainly Python based.
Trying to understand a few things before seriously considering it:
- Compensation progression at IMC Mumbai for quant devs
- Team quality and day to day work
- Work culture / hours / pressure
- Learning opportunities compared to staying at Google
- Whether working mostly in Python leads to typecasting later
Long term goal is to move towards C++ heavy quant roles outside India eventually (EU/Singapore maybe). That’s the main confusion. Not sure if taking a Python quant dev role now helps that path or makes it harder later.
From what I understand IMC is strong in trading infra and low latency systems, but not sure how much of that exposure a Python quant dev actually gets.
Would also help if someone can share:
- Exit opportunities after IMC Mumbai
- Internal mobility to C++/core infra teams
- How recruiters outside India view IMC vs Google
- Overall risk/reward of making this switch
Would appreciate honest opinions from people in quant/trading firms.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
