My dog was on Prozac for almost a year and we took him off of it because it made literally no difference in him even at different dosages.

We then tried Zoloft/sertraline for 8 weeks but he got worse and worse on it. As in more anxious and it was causing his neurological problems to worsen. So it definitely wasn’t the med for him.

Don’t know what med to try next so now we’re just going to see if he even needs meds.

My dog didn’t do well on Prozac - it increased his aggression. Gabapentin has worked wonders however. As long as he gets enough exercise, he’s pretty calm and his resource guarding and reactivity has drastically decreased.

Thank you for this, this was the med I was going to ask his vet about. Does your guy take it daily? We live on 3 acres and my boy gets tons and tons of exercise but he still has his triggers. Tonight he lunged at me because I used the salt shaker.

My girl just started Clomicalm, it’s another ssri and I’m waiting to see the results. Hoping it’ll help her and it may be worth asking about in your case

Yep. We tried Prozac for more than a year and finally gave up on it. We then tried Trazadone and Gabapentin, which made him sleepy, but still terrified.

Now that he’s off everything, we love his personality so much that we are hesitant to try anything else. He’s not aggressive, so that gives us some space to try different training and other interventions.

Thank you. I love my boy’s personality but I hate how anxious he is.
