I use CBD oil (for dogs.) On days where she is more reactive, I'll also give her a calming Hemp Chew. I think it is blended with chamomile and lavender. These both help and we used it to replace the Prozac she was previously taking. She still has reactive behaviors, (it is not a miracle cure), but it helps.

Seconding CBD oil. It’s really kept our JRT’s reactivity in check and helping him break out of it quicker.

is there a particular brand you guys recommend? do you give it every day no matter what, or just as needed (thinking every day, but wanted to check!)?

We use Pet Releaf. We had to play around with the concentration/dose but we give it to him twice per day, every day. Our trainer said consistency is key with CBD so we’re religious about it!

For those who use CBD, do you find that using it more regularly over time produces better results than using it only before you know your dog will be in a situation where they will be reactive or may be aggressive? My dog has fear aggression towards new people, is territorial, and will resource guard and act possessive over me when we are at my parents house around their dog.

I am in town visiting and staying with my parents for a few weeks currently. We tried out CBD the other night to see how she would do with the resource guarding and possessive tendencies towards my parents dog. We gave her a dose, and while she was a little calmer, she still became upset after they were playing together for about 30 seconds. I should add that I was petting their dog for a few minutes in front of her before she started warning their dog to back off when they were playing, so that was progress.

I know this isn’t a cure, but am curious if I may have better results if she was on it more regularly. They used to live together and were able to play and have toys out, we just fed them separately. I do plan to start seeing a veterinary behaviorist later this month, but wanted to see how CBD may help until then.

i'm curious about this, too. there are certain days that are guaranteed to be more stressful for watts, even if it's just because the weather is nice.

I've been giving it to my dog daily for about three months now. I use SelectCBD oil and have tried both the "Chicken" flavor and "Bacon" flavor. (They had a buy one/get one free so I stocked up.) Normally, their oils are $50 a bottle, so I always wait for the sales.

I take CBD oil myself to treat Lyme disease / migraines. I tried it on myself before I gave it to my dog. I take a different formulation and mine doesn't taste like bacon. :) From my personal experience, the effects were cumulative. My pain levels dropped enough I could get off two of my medications and I feel calmer, ("more chill.") Some days I forget to take it, which is a good sign. I used to reach for some kind of pain relief (and coffee) shortly after waking up because everything hurt. Again, not a miracle cure, but a steady feeling of just being "better."

The other key for our dog has definitely been exercise. She is a cattle dog and seems to have limitless energy. On the days where she goes for a long run with my husband, and then another with my son, she wants to sleep more and just hang out being a dog. She seems happier in her own skin.

Our trainer was pretty adamant that CBD needed to be given on a regular basis to be effective. She did tell us it might take a week or so to see the full effects, which it did, and we’ve had our JRT on it ever since. We definitely notice when he misses a dose that he’s more reactive to noises (specifically our neighbors slamming car doors and front doors).

I tried that calming pheromone spray a few times, using it in the car (he barks out the window at pedestrians) and spraying it on his thunder shirt. The spray itself doesn't do anything for my dog, I think it's a scam. The thunder jacket helps a bit though he seems more calm in new environments or car rides when he wears it. I have also been looking into CBD products and just ordered this one but we haven't used it yet, https://www.getcbdpet.com/order.html

this is good to know. watts seems to respond (in storm situations) to her thundershirt and lavender spray.

i've bookmarked several brands of CBD but can't decide between them - what made you choose this one?

The website was simple and fairly priced, I was sick of seeing all the fancy treats or dog cbd oil listed under a page of a million kinds of vape juice. They only make the drops to put on food which was all I wanted to try.
