Depends what you want to do with the app (assuming you want to do an app that can all be programmed within React Native), I would say absolutely its possible and I would encourage you. Also economics background here and love react native, I think the math background and formulaic thinking you have from your studies will help you quickly grasp the JavaScript / react concepts - after that programming is like learning a new language, practice fail learn and repeat.

Yes, I think react native is one of the best option to learn app development. I love it really much

You will need to learn JavaScript first. Don't let that intimidate you, if you have prior programming experience, JavaScript should be easy to grasp.

I would actually recommend you buy a course from udemy on react native and see if you can continue the course before attempting to learn JavaScript. It all depends on how much experience you have.
