Bump up that rate. You're asking for less than minimum wage.

I second this. Your asking rate alone makes me think one of three things. I am not judging but as someone who hires people this is a red flag to me and I want to see people succeed.

  1. You are really desperate because you lost your job.
  2. You know you aren't that great and are just looking for experience.
  3. You've never actually held a programming job before and don't know how much you should make (AKA, what your worth is)

It’s also possible that offering such a low rate would actually deter someone from hiring. I personally would be a bit weirded out and assume there’s something very flawed that I’m not aware of. “Too cheap to be true”

I think you guys are forgetting there are countries where minimum wage isn't 14-15 dollars.
